What does "Jesus" mean? Literally, it means "God saves."
Both Mary and Joseph were told to name her child Jesus. It means He Saves. Why? The angel Gabriel answered that question. He would save his people from their sins. God could have named his son judgment, or condemnation. He did not choose those names. He chose "Jesus". And the implications of that choice are profound.
Key Verse
“ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him."
John 3:17
Are you afraid of repentence?
Don't think of repentence as dwelling on the mistakes in your life and promising to never do them again. Think of it as an opportunity to change your thinking. Jesus is not surprised by sin, broken thinking, or broken lives. He came to walk alongside broken people. He came to help them see, believe, experience and become something more.
Key Verse
I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to a new way of thinking. Luke 5:32
Are you feeling judged?
Jesus' mission was not about judgment. His mission was about rescue. He came looking for us when we were lost and broken. And he got down in the muck with us to help pull us out of it.
Key Verse
For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost. Luke 19:10
